Welcome to Pachamama Ventures

We back the founders building for the 2nd Industrial Revolution: the climate reindustrialization.

About

About

Pachamama Ventures is a San Francisco based venture capital firm backing breakthrough companies building for the 2nd Industrial Revolution — the foundational technologies driving the climate reindustrialization of the physical world.

We invest at the earliest stages, when conviction in a founder's vision matters more than traction. Our portfolio companies receive more than capital: they gain a partner with deep operational experience and direct access to Fortune 500 procurement relationships that accelerate commercial traction from day one.

Pachamama Ventures was founded on the belief that the most consequential climate solutions will be built at the intersection of advanced science and real-world industrial deployment. We back the founders making that happen.

Thesis

Thesis

We are at the beginning of a Second Industrialization.

The first Industrial Revolution transformed the physical world through steam, steel, and scale. What comes next will be defined by breakthrough materials, next-generation energy systems, and intelligent industrial platforms — technologies that don't just improve on the old infrastructure, but replace it entirely.

This transition will be the largest capital formation event of our generation. Pachamama Ventures exists to back the founders leading it.

We focus on pre-seed stage companies building in:

  • Advanced Materials — novel inputs that make industrial processes cleaner, cheaper, and more resilient

  • Energy Systems — generation, storage, and distribution technologies that decarbonize at scale

  • Industrial Platforms — AI, software and data infrastructure that optimize the physical economy

Our edge is commercial access. With 16 years of operating experience inside Fortune 100 companies — including Visa, PepsiCo, and American Airlines — our Managing Partner connects portfolio companies to enterprise procurement relationships that most early-stage funds cannot offer.

We are mission-aligned investors. We select partners who share our conviction that the reindustrialization of the global economy is both a generational business opportunity and an essential climate imperative.

Pachamama Ventures is built on operating experience — decades spent on the buyer and procurement side of the table at the world's leading Fortune 100 companies. We bring that access to every founder we back.

Karen Sheffield is the Founder & Managing Partner of Pachamama Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage breakthrough technology companies. Previously, she worked for American Airlines, PepsiCo, and Visa in multiple and progressing finance roles. A self-described operator turned investor, Karen began angel investing in 2020 and, ever since then, has dedicated much of her time to uncovering opportunities in unlikely places. Karen holds a double degree in Finance and Economics from Texas Christian University (TCU) and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin.
